Just one more day! I can hardly wait! I'm eager to see those smiling, furry faces, and all the amazing people who have donated to or adopted from our shelter. They're the ones who make it work. None of what we do would be possible without donors and adopters. We're not funded by the city, county, state, or national government. Our funding comes from private donations. It's an enormous operation providing food and care for the dogs, cats, rats, hamsters, rabbits, birds, mice, lizards, snakes, guinea pigs, goats, and horses who come our way. They need basic medications frequently, and we spay and neuter all our animals, and provide surgery for all sorts of things from torn cruciates to tumors to entropion surgery, and so many other things that our animals require. If you've ever had to have surgery on a companion animal, you likely know how costly that can be. Imagine how many times over we do these things! We have adopted thousands upon thousands of animals through our shelter, and they have all received top notch care. We are constantly researching ways to reduce shelter stress, and have a clicker training program that includes basic manners and tricks as well as some agility training, dog play groups, a strong foster network, and a team of volunteers who ensure that dogs get walked several times each day, in addition to cuddle time. Some volunteers run with the dogs, and others go on pack hikes, where the dogs get to go to a local nature area and take extended walks. We even have a program for people to read to stressed dogs. We get to do all of this because awesome individuals in our community have graciously given us the funding to make it possible! The cool thing for me is getting to meet them at our public events, where we can show them some of what we do. It's one of the highlights of my life. One more day!
