There's something about vrieseas that captivates me. The glyphs on the leaves have the most striking asymmetry, yet they still conform to certain patterns, albeit irregularly. Between the creaminess of some leaves and the hints of pinks and purples, the thin distribution of cutin in its subtle milky sheen, and the sharp greens, I find something irresistible about these plants. Unlike many other bromeliads, they have no spines, making them friendlier to grow, as well. Their smooth leaves arch gracefully, and I love the rosette shape common to the bromeliad family. Vriesea ospinae is a must-have, according to at least one grower who insisted on thrusting one into my hands some time ago. I'm thankful he did.
I'm presenting the image in my studio unmatted and unframed because it's freshly completed, and I'd like to debut it properly in person at my next events.
This painting will be available at my upcoming shows, the Michigan Orchid Society Show & Sale in Madison Heights, and the Novi Home & Garden Show in Novi (unless it sells at the MOS show first!). Please see my event listings for details.
